Kimono from Stencils

Kimono from Stencils

kimono large, front, gold and black

During years when I was teaching art through craft, I developed a series of stencils. One of them was a 3-D kimono shape, which could be used as a blank canvas. It shared the concepts of composition, especially as it wrapped around a form, color, repetition of pattern, and a platform for ideas. The images included are from the classes on pattern, both hand drawn and taken from collage papers.

The stands I created are custom made and provide hangers for two sizes of kimonos.
